about

The Autumn Equinox is upon us.

Day and night are equals.

A time of mourning.
A time of reflection.
A time of change.

Forest Summoner is proud to present the Autumn Equinox Compilation 2022.

We’ve been traveling out to the land reforestation project for almost two years. Each season is wildly different from the last, and it has been such a fulfilling and wonderful experience getting to know the land. The first thing we do is water the plants. We have ten 5 gallon jugs (50 gallons or 189 liters) we fill with water and drive out to the land.

We have reintroduced over a dozen native plants. 2 desert willows, 1 paloverde, 2 mesquite, 2 rabbitbrush have all survived. Watching them thrive has been such a joy.

This project is entirely DIY, and out of pocket. I learn best through doing. We have learned how to better protect our saplings, and young plants but we’ve lost alot of plants to the local jackrabbits, desert rats, lizards, and other critters. I don’t feel too bad about it though, if they needed a snack, who I am to stop them? When we planted prickly pear and beavertail cactus, they got eaten up so fast. Guess it's a favorite.

Fall is the best season to put plants in the ground in the Mojave. The plants have all of autumn, winter, and spring for their roots to find the water deep in the ground so by summer they’re ready for the brutal conditions. The temperature is much more manageable, but damn does it get windy. The Santa Ana winds will blast through creating dust devils that will plow through the area. You’ll be kneeled over planting a sagebrush, and you look up and half a mile away is a 70ft sand tornado cruising around.

Thank you to all the bands who contributed music to this comp. I literally could not do it with out your support. Thank you Blackbraid, Hearth, Verminlord, Mycorrhizal, Despair Eternal and Arecaceae!
